<div style="font-family: inherit; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Project Evaluation</span></span></div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">This
project has been a huge experience for me. It is the first time in DP2 where we
have been asked to work in a group. I found this quite difficult, after being
put in a group of nine and I was assigned to be the producer, I wasn't sure on
what this role entailed, I only knew that I needed to be organised. Following
the seminar I researched more about the role, and began to understand the
different tasks I needed to complete. Looking back over the five weeks I think
I would have preferred it if I had a different role, Nevertheless, I still feel
as though I have accomplished and achieved lots. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Working
in a group is something which I have not done for a while; our group was made
up of nine people. I feel that nine was too many, if we were broken into
smaller groups, I think that we could have been more productive during the
planning stages. Although at times I feel that I would have preferred to have
worked alone, I know that I have gained a huge amount of experience within
production, planning and editing of a project. I had a big responsibility, it
was my task to ensure that everyone attended meetings; I planned locations,
completed various forms and ensured that the crew and cast knew what they were
doing. During pre-production I felt as though I had a mountain of work to get
through; however Nick Rook my assistant helped me repeatedly and assisted me
throughout the project. I feel grateful that I have been able to work in a
group with people that have so much creative knowledge; this has definitely
been a massive positive for me. I feel that as producer, I worked very hard to
contribute towards the progress of the project. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I feel
that my own personal research and development has helped me to progress through
the project, without my development I would not have the knowledge to complete
the edit and understand the themes which run through the film. I documented
every meeting which the group had, this was part of my role as producer- but it
also aided me in remembering the groups input. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">From
when we were handed the brief, I feel that we stuck with the same vision/theme
for the script and style of the production. Because we were the last group to
have 'Last Chance', it was important for us to try an interpret it in a
different way. The group decided to set it in a forest, and try a transform it
into a party in the woods between a close group of friends. I think we
definitely achieved the style that we was aiming for. I am very happy with how
the shots and edits demonstrate the vintage theme and captures the
relationships between characters.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: inherit;">
<span style="font-size: small;"> </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: inherit; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF-rvWoUD_JFmcJtvCnRnCDsrfJGPIuAawYm_sfiguQVo_inYjwwFJresdbam-Llys9pR191Idf_FkQjwY1dNsKqPGgnfkfjJMRzadFdbiJUW0nIcq3MiWIIy2s2tsyr4-DMPGXTt_yLk/s1600/IMG_7767.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF-rvWoUD_JFmcJtvCnRnCDsrfJGPIuAawYm_sfiguQVo_inYjwwFJresdbam-Llys9pR191Idf_FkQjwY1dNsKqPGgnfkfjJMRzadFdbiJUW0nIcq3MiWIIy2s2tsyr4-DMPGXTt_yLk/s320/IMG_7767.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">The
film shoot taught me invaluable information about the production side of
things, it was tiring and tedious, but the results were worth the long days.
During the shoots we all came together and managed to gain all of the footage
required for a successful edit. Meeting and working with actors was a great
experience, we all met some fantastic people who helped us out immensely. The
tasks which we completed beforehand such as, recceing the locations gave me an
insight on the style of film the director was aiming for, looking back I am
very happy with the decision the to make the film 'rural', it adds a different
dimension to the script and characters.<span> </span></span></div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Because
of the late filming schedule, we had just over three days to complete an edit.
At first this worried me slightly, but because of the careful research I had
completed I felt that I knew what I wanted from the script and what story I
wanted to tell. After two very long days in Waverly I finished my edit, I am
pleased with the result. However I did encounter several problems during the
process. I've listed a few below.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-size: small;">Sound,<span> </span>I found it difficult to match up the
audio clips with the visual files. We could have solved this by ensuring
that we brought a clapper board, it would have saved me a lot of time
whilst editing. I also wish that we would have got a few more sound
recordings of the dialogue, some on my film are a little muffled.<span> </span>Looking back over my edit I have noticed
that the levels of the music and dialogue do not match up, it is very
simple to resolve and would improve the sound quality of the edit. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"> </span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: inherit; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkWFpASSWOmZV_i3oIu7p-sgTNROs7jH_nquhtRnOKWFom74fFM15QJ31_aL25hOj839NVNs5SO9PmqRCiQUYqNXdywxYBfuEImv91J96nlTToPdUiKdHDz3rEo6p3KPMPgZI4xIRcipk/s1600/colourcorrection%23.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="179" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkWFpASSWOmZV_i3oIu7p-sgTNROs7jH_nquhtRnOKWFom74fFM15QJ31_aL25hOj839NVNs5SO9PmqRCiQUYqNXdywxYBfuEImv91J96nlTToPdUiKdHDz3rEo6p3KPMPgZI4xIRcipk/s320/colourcorrection%23.png" width="320" /></a></span><span style="font-size: small;"> </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: inherit; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-size: small;">Whilst I was
editing I noticed that some of the shots that we had, were different in
the light/colour/shadows. After I had completed my edit, I tried my best
to colour correct the parts which I felt were the worst. Below is as
example of one of the corrections I did. For this, I used RGB curves,
which lifted the shadows, without loosing colour quality </span></li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-size: small;">Looking back, I
wish that I had given myself a longer window to edit in, I feel that I
could have improved my edit further once I had feedback. </span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: small;">I also would
have liked to experiment with using more dialogue, my edit features quite
a noticeable soundtrack. I think this takes away from the acting slightly,
If I had chose mellower music, I think the audience would concentrate on
the facial expressions and smaller details. </span></li>
</ul>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">The
project has given me a close insight to working with new people and having a
responsibility within a crew. I feel as though my knowledge has excelled in the
moving image area. I discovered that so much hard work and effort goes into a
short five minute production. </span></div>zoestroudhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07236470819952783027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9089972616400685341.post-48841790684589643752012-03-12T10:22:00.001-07:002012-03-12T10:22:15.333-07:00Evaluation: Virtual Environment Project<br />
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">To sum up this
project in three words, I'd use: creative, frustrating and rewarding. Overall I
am very pleased with my progress throughout the five weeks, looking back I can
finally see a difference and a change as I have progressed. At the beginning of
my five weeks I had no idea how to use 3Dsmax or where to start, but several
weeks later and I have a finished project, complete with textures, lights and a
camera. I have managed to plan, develop, create and finalise my project .</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">For me, planning and
developing is a very big part of my project, exploring different ideas. At
first I struggled to think about what way I would proceed. I knew that it was
important for me to build something which was related to me as a person. The
brief states: 'that best represents your secret alter ego'.<span> </span>At first I could not relate anything about me
to being 'super', this is when I deciding to take a step back and look at it on
a different level. I have lots of various interests and thought I could pull on
this to make something which is secretive and interesting. Vintage,
architecture, books and looking at interiors are all interests of mine, this is
how I began to think about creating a character to match this. Over Christmas I
watched an adaptation of Great Expectations and was compelled by the character
'Miss Havisham' there is something fantastically haunting about her. This is
where my idea stemmed from, I also looked at other influential female villains,
such as wonder woman, Miss Adler from the Sherlock Holmes films and Constantine
from Underworld. Each of these character possess dark traits in the their
personality. Based on my interests I began to develop a character which had
once been jilted at the alter, she uses persuasion to persuade grooms to leave
their brides.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">After developing my
character, I had to think about how I want the environment to look, I explored
different ideas and themes, from Egyptian pyramids to English churches. After
developing for some time I decided on creating a lair which would be based in
the back of a church. I have four rooms and one corridor which has a set of
stairs. My main theme is gothic, so it was really important for me to convey
this,<span> </span>I chose to have stone walls and
floors to really emphasise how it is underneath a church. When I have visited
churches before I immediately feel cold, I think that is because of the how so
much of the space is made out of stone, this is something I wanted to visually
transfer into my four rooms. From the feedback and comments people have given
me , I have achieved that goal; most people have told me how it reminds them of
a church without it be directly obvious. To convey the theme further I added a
shrine, this has been lit in a way which makes it the focal point of the room
and also pinpoints the connection with the church and gives the audience a
little more insight into the villains character.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Using my online blog
and my project book has helped me greatly through the journey of this project.
I use my project book like an sketchbook, it helps me manufacture my ideas and
make sense of them in an ordered and chronological manner. Looking at my finished
project leads me to think about what areas I could improve, I have talked about
this previously in my project and I definitely would consider adding a couple
more rooms, although my space was intentionally quite compact, I think if I had
extended and added a dungeon it would portrayed an obvious evil dimension to my
character. Another improvement I'd like to make would be<span> </span>to add an outside presence, so that it could
be visible through the windows. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Leading onto the
software: 3Ds max. When I first saw the interface I found it daunting, however
as Andy spoke us through different parts I began to familiarise myself with
different commands. I wish that I could have had another week, as I would have
used it to simply play around and practice with building different structures.
At the same time as building the environment I was still getting to grips with
how to use it. This caused me to make silly mistakes, which I could have
avoided if doing the project again, for example; the camera path. However
looking at it from a different perspective I feel that I have achieved and
learnt a lot about virtual environments and I have grown interested in
modelling and creating realistic spaces</span>. </div>zoestroudhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07236470819952783027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9089972616400685341.post-35490144793823581132012-03-12T08:22:00.001-07:002012-03-12T08:23:00.708-07:00Improvements & Feedback<span style="font-size: small;">I have now completed
my first version of my animation. It took 23 hours to render (I'm guessing
that’s due to the volume light I used), but I now have a finished project.
Thinking back to week one , I am surprised at how much I have achieved; however
I still feel that I could improve in several ways.</span><br />
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">After gathering
feedback from my peers, the general opinion was similar to my views. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Soundtrack or not?</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Before I had
completed the video, I couldn’t decide whether I wanted to add a soundtrack
onto the animation. Listening with and without it, helped me come to the
conclusion that I should include a soundtrack- simply because it seems to give
the sequence life. I chose a eerie track which featured choir boys singing.
This instantly made it obvious to the audience that it is set in a church. A
few comments from the feedback suggested that I should consider changing the
music to the speed of the camera, I completely agree. By changing the music
speed as the camera flies around the two main rooms would smoothen out some of
the smaller issues. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Walls:</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I started building
my walls for my project right at the beginning of the five week cycle. This was
the stage when I was still experimenting with the software, I made the walls by
creating different cubes and resizing them to fit, although this has worked
perfectly well, I feel that it could be improved further by carefully
connecting each of the walls- so that they are not separate and cannot be moved
around individually. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeBBMV4bDAKPmCVTcW6sf0H8gH6_fH3ULtLV0YliR_5wAxPDTs32vpjInA2Ohhyphenhyphenapfnq3sxZBybzDMfMd71c18cdQB4zi0dGyLHWZUXHuxsrvJao_OMtoUY_3-A7f1oIB4n1r2T-quf-o/s1600/walls4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeBBMV4bDAKPmCVTcW6sf0H8gH6_fH3ULtLV0YliR_5wAxPDTs32vpjInA2Ohhyphenhyphenapfnq3sxZBybzDMfMd71c18cdQB4zi0dGyLHWZUXHuxsrvJao_OMtoUY_3-A7f1oIB4n1r2T-quf-o/s320/walls4.png" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Bell tower:</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">The bell tower was
created through trial and error, I wasn't sure how I would tackle making
something seem realistic. Although it works well within the scene and fits
together with the rest of the environment, there are some changes I would
consider completing.</span><span style="font-size: small;"> I have already
thought about editing some parts which include creating the spire and ensuring
that all the walls line up. After watching it back I would like to progress
this further, I noticed that some of the windows were offset from the rest of
the wall (as seen from the image below). It is particularly obvious and could
be resolved easily. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqPl_LPjFAr3VXPbwlzLKWNkiVl-rNyctUIHODmphBf7wTZz-zPVt6hU_xjOXXvxM6D_kRp6FDozGhWzrsT5Ocy8q94Q64nnXbWgpyeUOaEAKIvqGyDeLKmNeR1MEBKMQKZ-4ECIIDVeQ/s1600/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqPl_LPjFAr3VXPbwlzLKWNkiVl-rNyctUIHODmphBf7wTZz-zPVt6hU_xjOXXvxM6D_kRp6FDozGhWzrsT5Ocy8q94Q64nnXbWgpyeUOaEAKIvqGyDeLKmNeR1MEBKMQKZ-4ECIIDVeQ/s320/4.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Furniture:</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I am pleased with
the standard of furniture in my environment, but looking at others work I feel
that I could have pushed myself further and added more into each scene.
However, I do think part of why my environment works well is the fact that is
isn't overcrowded and remains quite empty and desolate. I would have liked to
model a Italian style sofa and also possibly added another room such as a
dungeon to expand my characters capability. The main problem was the time and
having to fit my whole project into five weeks, if I did have the chance or
more time to work on it, I would have</span><span style="font-size: small;">
certainly added small extras. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Camera:</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I was surprised by
how difficult I found adding the camera into the scene. It seemed like a simple
task at the begginning, but as I divulged into it, I realised that I had spent
a couple of hours and hadn't achieved that effect I wanted. I could feel myself
growing more annoyed at trying to complete a simple task. I wanted the camera
to feel like my character strolling around the rooms, remembering her wedding.
To a certain extent, I feel that I did achieve that, but it some areas the
camera path needs to be modified further, especially in the bell tower. The
camera jerks around too much, and needs a smoother route. I'd also like to
focus on individual elements a little longer, I feel that a minute isn't enough
to show off the environment as well as I wanted to. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Outside Space: </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Looking back over
the project, I wish I had paid more attention of modelling the outside area,
because the first corridor has many windows, it would have been nice to be able
to see varied outside surroundings. Due to fact it is set under a church, looking
outside and seeing a graveyard would have contributed to the atmosphere in the
environment. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Most of the comments
I received from speaking to others about my project were positive: </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">"How about
creating flames for the candles"</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">"The camera
reminds me of the character and how she will walk around the empty corridors
reminiscing about her ex-partner,. The way the bell stays still but the you can
hear the chimes, seems as though she is remembering.'</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">'The environment
instantly reminds me of a church'</span></div>

super heroes/villains, I have decided on my final character idea. It is obvious
through my research that I have it has helped me to decide on the direction I
want to progress my project in. Looking at female characters secured my
thoughts on creating a woman, then comparing ways which villains and heroes
have been portrayed over the years, I decided on a villain. This compliments my
gothic theme nicely.</span><br />
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">The reference to
Miss Havisham plays a large part with the persona of my character- she will
wear a wedding dress (the one which she was jilted at the alter with) and also
will remain in a solemn state of mind. I feel that there is something quite
eerie about the way she prolongs her nightmare and that it haunts her for the
rest of her life. I plan to transfer this into my character. I am a fan reading
books, especially fantasy- I think this is down to the way I feel transported
into a different unrealistic world. Books have definitely influenced my
character type and choice- my villain will wear black, which is often a trait
that could be found in mystical books.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">The story behind the
character:</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">When I first read
the brief, I struggled to think of a character from the top of my head.
Yelena's classes helped me to overcome this, by looking at ways shapes and
animals can help to create something unusual. I needed a starting point. So I
brainstormed ideas which would help me to create a story behind my choice; I
felt that if I could not justify my characters motives, it would be extremely
hard to make a believable environment for it.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Pulling on all my
inspirations and research I had collected, I decided on a character. The
character is a villain who lives under a church in the 1900s. Interestingly
when she was younger she had discovered the ability of persuasion- at first she
did not realise the full extent of her power. Her parents were French, but she
moved to England after becoming engaged . She was hopelessly in love with her
fiancé, but could not see past his false façade. She was born into a wealthy
family, therefore she, herself was wealthy. On the day of the wedding, her
fiancé left her at the alter, and stole from her a small fortune. This
devastated her and sent her into a frenzy, she never left the church. This is
when she understood the full usefulness of her power and persuaded everyone to
leave her and let her live under the church alone. From this point she grew
bitter and spiteful, she now spends the rest of her days planning to ruin the
weddings which take place in the church where she was jilted- by using her power
to persuade the man against his love and to fall in love with her. Of course
she has no appeal for the men after she seduces and therefore she lets them go.
However her work has been competed knowing that she has successfully wrecked
another couples happiness. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Choosing the name: </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Choosing the name
for my character has been a difficult progress, I haven’t had something pop
into my head which I have thought would fit perfectly. To help me solve this
issue I looked at female French names and their meanings. I thought it would be really good to have a
direct link to the characters origin, my favourite names were:</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Penelope:
Greek myth name of the patient wife of Odysseus who waited ten years for his
return during which she refused several proposals of marriage by princes. The
name is composed of the elements pene "needle" and lopas
"spool," which is taken to mean "weaver of cunning,"
denoting someone whose motives are hard to decipher. </span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Apoline:
Translates to destroyer</span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Emeline:
Translates to rival</span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Desiree:
Means, to be desired. Connotations of mystery.</span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Francette:
Means, to be free</span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Henriette:
Translates to home ruler</span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Leonne:
Means lion</span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Lilliane:
Translates to lily, which has connotations of death</span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Marceline:
Means to be warlike</span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Perrine:
Means- Rock, stone</span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">From
above you can see the collection of names which have meanings which reflect on
my villain. My favourite is Desiree, because of its translation. I think it
fits perfectly, her appearance is seductive, she is attractive and powerful.
The meaning is mystical and compliments her story, the men she plots against
her desire her too. However 'Desiree' wasn't enough, I felt that I needed a
slight edge which would give her more power. I thought about 'miss' and 'ms',
but this was too similar to 'Miss Havisham', it finally struck me to use the
French version of Madame. <span style="font-style: italic;">'Madame Desiree'</span>-
is the name I have decided on, I think it reflects faultlessly on her persona. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">The Environment: </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">From the context of
my character, I have had to think about this in relation of the theme I am
inspired by. The theme I have been looking at is: gothic, barbaric, medieval,
eerie, unearthly and spectral. The instant link I thought about was the link to
English churches. Earlier on in my development I looked at Hogwarts and the
work of Giovanni Battista Piranesi this confirmed my thoughts on wanting to
create a space with is like a church.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">The story of 'Madame
Desiree' lets me be able to build a space which would involve part of a church
and use the influences of the architecture to help me model my own space. I am
not certain on what rooms I want to model for definite as there is more development
to be considered. However I am confident that the character's lair will be
underneath the church. </span></div>zoestroudhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07236470819952783027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9089972616400685341.post-91487130915717767812012-03-11T10:19:00.000-07:002012-03-11T10:21:40.346-07:00Modelling: Walls<span style="font-size: small;">After the third
seminar with Andy, I finally felt as though I was getting somewhere with
modelling my space. Today I built the
walls around my environment, using the floor plans I had to guide me. Overall it took me about two hours, I did not
expect it to take this long, but I felt that some parts were not as I wanted
them, resulting in me taking my time to tweak things. I discovered quite a lot
of little problems, I will demonstrate these in the screen shots below. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: small;">After building the

did not match up very evenly. This was a problem I faced and had to solve by
re-measuring and moving the walls slightly. I am still not 100% happy with the
result however, I didn't want to spend a lot of time tweaking them. If I have
time at the end of the project I'll change little parts of the structure. </span></div>zoestroudhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07236470819952783027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9089972616400685341.post-31433509722297440792012-03-11T10:15:00.001-07:002012-03-11T10:15:46.670-07:00Superhero vs Supervillain<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I feel in quite a
good place with my ideas, I have secured several ideas which I am happy that I
could develop further. I know that I have to chose one and with the gothic
theme pushing forward in the back of my head I have decided to carry out a
little more research on super heroes and villains.</span><span style="font-size: small;"> By doing this I am sure I will be able to
finalize an idea, so that I can being character development and floor plans for
my virtual space. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Two shows that I
have watched on TV before are; heroes and misfits. Both of these shows take a
contemporary take on super powers and supernatural abilities. When I first read
the brief on this project these two programmes were one of the first things I thought
about- hence why I feel the importance to look at the characters and the
abilities</span><span style="font-size: small;"> which some of them possess.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Heroes:</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">The interesting
thing about the series is that explores normal people adjusting and discovering
that they have superpowers and skills. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">'Some of the
superheroes who will be introduced to the viewing audience include Peter
Petrelli, an almost 30-something male nurse who suspects he might be able to
fly, Isaac Mendez, a 28-year-old junkie who has the ability to paint images of
the future when he is high, Niki Sanders, a 33-year-old Las Vegas showgirl who
begins seeing strange things in mirrors, Hiro Nakamura, a 24-year-old Japanese
comic-book geek who literally makes time stand still, D.L. Hawkins, a
31-year-old inmate who can walk through walls, Matt Parkman, a beat cop who can
hear other people's thoughts, and Claire Bennet, a 17-year-old cheerleader who
defies death at every turn. As the viewing audience is discovering the nature
of each hero's powers, the heroes themselves are discovering what having
superpowers means to them as well as the larger picture of where their
superpowers come from.'</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">

</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">From the text above
it is clear that there are a vast selection of skills and abilities</span><span style="font-size: small;"> across different types of characters. Most of
the people who have powers in the show are heroes, and use their abilities in a
positive way. The villain Silas, appeals to me more that the moral characters,
I think this is because he adds a dimension to the storyline which contrasts
the usual pleasant and correct code of society. This makes me think about my
super character, and tells me that I should look at a villain, simply because
of my interest in the darker elements of the show. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Misfits:</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Similar to Heroes,
Misfits is which explores how powers have changed normal individuals lives.
Created by channel four, this grimy series relates to teens because of its
characters and their lifestyle.</span><span style="font-size: small;">
Personally, I love this programme, it is dark, mysterious and humorous,
The characters are not your 'run of the mill' well behaved teens, as they are
completing community service. After a storm all of the characters have a range
of special powers. The brilliant thing is, that they are all fairly
unconventional powers, and not your 'stereotypical' super heroes. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">'Hard as nails Kelly
(Lauren Socha) can suddenly hear people’s thoughts, shamed sporting hero Curtis
(Nathan Stewart Jarrett) discovers he has the ability to turn back time when he
regrets something, and party girl Alisha (Antonia Thomas) can send people into
a sexual frenzy when they touch her skin. Even painfully shy Simon (Iwan Rheon)
can make himself invisible when he feels he’s being ignored, which makes it all
the more hard to swallow for smart aleck Nathan (Robert Sheehan), who seems to
have been unaffected, much to his dismay.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Unlike their more
conventional counterparts, our misfits don’t swap their ankle tags and mobile
phones for capes and tights. Instead, they discover what a pain in the arse
life can be when you’re stuck with a super power you didn’t want.' </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">

</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">The powers the
characters possess aren't the normal super strength or the ability to fly,
instead they are more realistic. I especially like Alisha's, not being able to
let any one touch her at all. The different way superpowers are approached
makes me want to create something alternative to the norm. I have proven to
myself that I am generally drawn towards villains as opposed to heroes.
Thinking back to my ideas, my first is my favourite. I will be able to bring in
the influence of my interest towards the Victorian and gothic theme and
simultaneously develop a Villain which is unusual and also fascinating. </span></div>zoestroudhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07236470819952783027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9089972616400685341.post-51329429367959641942012-03-11T10:14:00.001-07:002012-03-11T10:14:07.278-07:00Character Development<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-style: italic;">Evaluation for 'My Portfolio</span>'</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I find it hard to
know how to begin writing evaluations, but I guess I'll start with my project
as an overall. Generally I am very pleased with the results, I am a little
frustrated that I could not do some of the things that I had originally
contemplated- I'll touch on that later. Considering the project was five weeks
long, I planned, designed, created and completed a website (my first). This is
quite a large achievement, I finished a six-page portfolio which included pages
which allowed people to interact and understand my work.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I planned and
developed thoroughly, using my project book. I do regret not generating a few
more ideas to work on for the design, but also I know that the design I picked
reflects my creativity. I've said before that I wasn't too confident with the
software,<span> </span>I feel that this project was
about getting to know the basics. Now I know the basics I am more than eager to
learn new methods and skills. The sites I researched amazed and impressed me,
so much can be done through flash, jquery and HTML5. On my portfolio I had the
idea of having a slideshow gallery on my index page, just to display some text
and interesting photos which will really grab the audiences attention. I also
considered having an entrance page in which I would have a graphic or
photograph. I am really interested in words and how they can be manipulated,
this is an idea which I would like to explore in future interactive projects. I
did touch on this in this project through my titles. I photographed and used
scrabble pieces to make up words- this directly reflects on my interest.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4SFCqXbC6Yai6tPVs8i4JzSpa5DkjmEsAQKzdbsCVXbBrlaR9VodxdKgeV2cm1aCrRK6I_zvsuy2-lKbZHQ1NKsYD18qCdNfboSCT56rZmPJjDZzWM4YmfFPDO2BRKhen9c2YT2Uywgk/s1600/myprofile.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="40" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4SFCqXbC6Yai6tPVs8i4JzSpa5DkjmEsAQKzdbsCVXbBrlaR9VodxdKgeV2cm1aCrRK6I_zvsuy2-lKbZHQ1NKsYD18qCdNfboSCT56rZmPJjDZzWM4YmfFPDO2BRKhen9c2YT2Uywgk/s320/myprofile.png" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div style="margin: 0in;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Another way which I
explored typography and text through my portfolio and development was by
looking at fonts for my page. I eventually decided on Times New Roman, however
I altered the character spacing so it appeared a little more interesting. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_b_fTE9CSJX2FrnUePpCp64lqGegWEpDIzH2YvpPZ22OjSZjmI3TRK73rlQTkwp3we5lWIjVEu1e2hQPEhRT8hHgydrTYpuaXmrwhgx_YK4yqxDJsq0I8Mg6jPa9lE4CgQbNJR9lxg1s/s1600/myprofiletext+%282%29.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_b_fTE9CSJX2FrnUePpCp64lqGegWEpDIzH2YvpPZ22OjSZjmI3TRK73rlQTkwp3we5lWIjVEu1e2hQPEhRT8hHgydrTYpuaXmrwhgx_YK4yqxDJsq0I8Mg6jPa9lE4CgQbNJR9lxg1s/s320/myprofiletext+%282%29.png" width="242" /></a></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;"> I am really amazed
by the scope of creativity which can be displayed on the internet- especially
when considering the contrast between some of the first websites to the
interactive spaces we see today. Exploring existing examples definitely
motivated me into thinking of innovative ways to<span> </span>create a portfolio. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">My design is quite
simple but I think it is successful. The feedback I received from<span> </span>peers and teachers told me that they liked
the strong used of colour and thoughtful layout. If I could improve anything on
my design I would consider trying to use a photograph as the main content of
the page, with the nav, footer and header overplayed onto the image. This is a
definite change to my use of black colour. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Dreamweaver was
initially daunting, but with some explanation of HTML and CSS I soon found
myself picking up the basic codes and being able to put it into practice. Next
time I would love to try experimenting with the DIVS arrangement<span> </span>and try using a two column layout. As I have
seen with my research, interesting things can be done with layout and I'd like
to implement this. I am planning to take web design as my pathway, therefore I
am planning to create mini projects where I practice with layouts and coding-
in the long run this will help me massively. My general achievements with the
coding and styling has encouraged me that I am able to accomplish things which
I never though I was able to. The image below demonstrates my final index page.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjM6SKQof7jPksth90GVd8g2kpUNsUNKVsnj1VGTb7vxXtQ3eOif5BqtW1JFhJuVlQlM-ltsHe0yTmOD1GLPCoJgit9kj-eEpn8dA6zJRfuwJQfhNdJ_WHV-cbUgyHCXY7N6xcmkEJFS8M/s1600/m6+%282%29.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="307" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjM6SKQof7jPksth90GVd8g2kpUNsUNKVsnj1VGTb7vxXtQ3eOif5BqtW1JFhJuVlQlM-ltsHe0yTmOD1GLPCoJgit9kj-eEpn8dA6zJRfuwJQfhNdJ_WHV-cbUgyHCXY7N6xcmkEJFS8M/s320/m6+%282%29.png" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">My project book is a
general reflection of all my thoughts. Looking back over it now I am a little
frustrated with my vagueness on some areas. Whilst I was creating it, during the project I didn't realise that
I had not included much on interacting with the audience and gaining feedback.
My next steps now it is completed would be to look at ways too gather some
thoughts from an audience . I would then take this information and use it to
improve my website. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I am generally
really happy with my design, especially for a first attempt. I have surprised
myself with technologies and I feel I've made something which reflects my
personality. </span></div>

<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Below are the
examples of text colour and font for my website- by doing this I have came to
the decision on the most suitable style. Typography is very important when it
comes to design because it defines the page appearance. </span></div>

<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">
</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Above are all the
fonts I have compared for my webpages, I have found the fonts from the list on
Photoshop. I have tried to consider different spacing, colour and style. It's
been a touch decision deciding which font to use for my piece. I wanted something
which would be suitable and readable for the user- especially if there are
large amounts of text. I was struggling with most of fonts, I just felt they
were not visually creative enough.
However I discovered the tool of character spacing on Photoshop. This tool
allowed me to experiment with the space between each letter by tightening and
loosening the space. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Although I looked at
Sans Serif fonts, I did not think they worked with the page layout and style as
well as Serif Fonts. I have used Scrabble pieces for my titles and because this
gives my design a fairly 'traditional style', I need the font to compliment
this. With this is mind I was able to rule down my choice of fonts
significantly to only Serifs. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">This left me with
Times New Roman, a common and popular font and Trajan Pro. Both of which match
my page style. However Trajan pro is capitals and unfortunately this isn't what
I wanted, I wanted to be able to use elongated capital letters combined with smaller
lower case letters. The only problem I have left with Times New Roman is that
it still looked too common and did not have a flare of originality. I used my knowledge of character spacing and
used it with Times New Roman- this was much better because the letters were
closer together which gave it more appeal with an traditional edge. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">In regards to
colour, it is obvious that I need to keep it related to my chosen colour scheme
of shades of red, black and grey. The singular colours do work well but for
added emphasis and links on certain words, I am going to change to alternative
colours and add text decorations of italics and bold. </span></div>zoestroudhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07236470819952783027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9089972616400685341.post-1421184722553829622012-02-06T12:42:00.000-08:002012-02-06T12:42:49.788-08:00More Website Progress..Here is my VERY nearly completed Gallery page..Gallery was created in Adobe Bridge, and entered into Dreamweaver using an <iframe><br />

I attended a seminar where we had to look at ways to optimise the image so that it is suitable for the web. As I am using large photographs I need to re-size them so that they are suitable for the web, by doing this I have also enabled myself to display images correctly in my portfolio. </span></div><div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11pt; margin: 0in;"><br />

</div><div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11pt; margin: 0in;"></div><div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;"><span style="font-size: small;">I have carried out this process for all of my images which I want to use on my web album. It is really important to do this procedure. It has enabled me to understand what kind of images are suitable for the web and that it is pointless using a file which is too large, as it will eventually slow down the website. For this image I have cropped, slightly edited it using the curves tool and also saved for web and devices. </span></div><div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;"><span style="font-size: small;">For this image I have chosen the format PNG-8, I looked at every option available which would be suitable for the web. The GIF format was very pixelated and when I previewed on the internet it wasn't happy with the result. (See below)</span></div><div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;"><br />

I chose against JPEG medium and high because they were over 50k and took over 20 seconds to load, I do not want my images to take that much time simply because it will slow down my site. JPEG low also did not work for me as the format quality was very poor. However all of my images differentiate, I expected this because I knew all of my photos were from different sources and therefore would have different properties. I have ensured that they are all of the best suitable quality and experimented with all of the four formats to come to the correct decision. </span></div><div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11pt; margin: 0in;"><br />

The easiest way to do this is on Photoshop and through the option of save for web and devices. </span></div><div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;"><span style="font-size: small;">The image below displays the quality of saving as PNG-8 file<span>, </span>the image is 72 dpi.. PNG files are usually used for graphics or layouts.<span> </span>There is a definite alteration in each of the image qualities. This tool is very handy, as it shows you four different options and how long it will take to load on the webpage, the image in the left corner is the original. On the right there are options which can be changed to increase the speed of the file loading. This has helped me to understand the difference in the file types. </span></div><div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQJhCYjZklrtEk-c-M6Gue5PIVQ4odEqEV_5biyZbK4RHTGwii0LW1pWmDo-ugEBJPYPukwXjWcgVvZD50cmu3K4zU6QZR3fefXtmeeV8p-M_wZJuuh5SyL48g5BtXiaDrUfRScQlb-aE/s1600/PNG.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="235" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQJhCYjZklrtEk-c-M6Gue5PIVQ4odEqEV_5biyZbK4RHTGwii0LW1pWmDo-ugEBJPYPukwXjWcgVvZD50cmu3K4zU6QZR3fefXtmeeV8p-M_wZJuuh5SyL48g5BtXiaDrUfRScQlb-aE/s320/PNG.png" width="320" /></a></span></div><div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;"><span style="font-size: small;">Below are four options of saving as a JPEG file.<span> </span>The image appears to remain in much better quality by choosing JPEG, the colour is less pixelated and remains smooth all over. </span></div><div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYyCjFvn_F1FtybO5WzzGM143wESIvdwKLmv4Up3-5wfUUC5J_wb6jUNOV-nsIgH-3C_N-POfRQc-g4xuhNbNIS9IFaGtWNUDQvgaFyItx-N79zJYME8AMkuoUId2i90p6_ITBOrHJn0Q/s1600/JPEG.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="237" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYyCjFvn_F1FtybO5WzzGM143wESIvdwKLmv4Up3-5wfUUC5J_wb6jUNOV-nsIgH-3C_N-POfRQc-g4xuhNbNIS9IFaGtWNUDQvgaFyItx-N79zJYME8AMkuoUId2i90p6_ITBOrHJn0Q/s320/JPEG.png" width="320" /></a></span></div><br />
<br />
<div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;"><span style="font-size: small;"> Below are four options of saving a GIF file. GIF files can be particularly handy on the web as the can be used to create small animations. GIF files are usually used for banners and layouts. From all of the options I have I can now select the most<span> </span>appropriate image and quality, with full knowledge of how long it will take to load on my page. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhS0GbXZl1bqaEWRrlzKUAXHtRvh5V_-__p2ex7BdSEZLmrch-jUJUaO3fWxs-bngDWRGuSQxrf0Dmyh5hyz51qKIBuMkulCfYUCn0DlPzZC6SkwKBPRTJcryu93nSxPIK1g_1UqjFW7GE/s1600/GIF.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="237" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhS0GbXZl1bqaEWRrlzKUAXHtRvh5V_-__p2ex7BdSEZLmrch-jUJUaO3fWxs-bngDWRGuSQxrf0Dmyh5hyz51qKIBuMkulCfYUCn0DlPzZC6SkwKBPRTJcryu93nSxPIK1g_1UqjFW7GE/s320/GIF.png" width="320" /></a></span></div><div style="margin: 0in;"><br />

This also applies to my website. Although it is obvious that is going to be created for me and to broadcast my work, I still need to consider my audience. Twitter, Facebook, Deviant Art, Linkedin and blogs are all ways to target an audience in a professional manner.</span></div><div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;"><span style="font-size: small;">Social networking is the perfect way for me to be able to join groups which I can communicate with, which is related to my work. I am already a member of twitter and Facebook, and I also have blogs which I write about projects I am currently working on. </span></div><div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;"><span style="font-size: small;">For me, Twitter is the best social network to be able to use to start building an audience and followers who are interested in what I do. It works in both ways, as I am also able to follow and trend a topics relevant to web design. I want to include a twitter feed on my website, which will show direct tweets and conversations which I am having. This way I am expanding followers and I am creating something which is used on a professional and formal basis. </span></div><div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;"><span style="font-size: small;">At the minute I am not sure which page would suit the website best. I feel that it will probably work best on the 'contact me' page, as it will lead the user onto my twitter and also will enhance the interactive experience. </span></div><div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Calibri; margin: 0in;"><span style="font-size: small;">Facebook is also useful for expanding audiences, especially now that it has the 'timeline' which enables the user to document everything which has been shared over years. For the website I don't plan to have a Facebook page, as I prefer twitter. I do however appreciate the usefulness and the awareness it can have. </span></div>zoestroudhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07236470819952783027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9089972616400685341.post-60599372078869353862012-01-26T03:48:00.000-08:002012-01-26T03:50:44.549-08:00Homepage- Wireframe<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMhAXm_hbH4bYpbptz2wQ4hiZbDcoSZOeUtYhaKzLH9bmPathQ8QFDpKQeJTHehDUz-6DS4QG-Ly-3psR1N__q-vJrn1315nwvyEl9A-ORc19ArnwbBOzi8JG9FiSP9mr5tl2jQz4JYSs/s1600/WIREFRAME+ONE.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMhAXm_hbH4bYpbptz2wQ4hiZbDcoSZOeUtYhaKzLH9bmPathQ8QFDpKQeJTHehDUz-6DS4QG-Ly-3psR1N__q-vJrn1315nwvyEl9A-ORc19ArnwbBOzi8JG9FiSP9mr5tl2jQz4JYSs/s320/WIREFRAME+ONE.jpg" width="305" /></a></div>This is the design for my homepage wire frame, I have kept is quite simple, this is because I want to try and understand the software before I over complicate things. I have chosen a central main montage of images to visually show my example of work, so that users on my website understand about me. This is also why I have added a couple of lines of text below which also will demonstrate a quick outline on the purpose of my site, this will enable users to learn about my work very quickly.<br />
<br />
I wanted to keep it fairly simple because some of the research which I carried out, suggested that the most successful websites, were the ones which remained simple and allowed the user to navigate quickly without having to concentrate too hard on how to use the site. I decided to keep everything fairly central because I felt that the eye would be able to focus easily, especially if all the text and images were aligned. <br />
<br />
I want the navigation to be placed along the top bar, just underneath the header so that it is one of the main things which the user will see and be attracted to- the words will all be equally spaced out and will be in capitals. The image montage will also act as a link to the gallery page & the small about me text, will again be a link to the 'about me' page.zoestroudhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07236470819952783027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9089972616400685341.post-59878253146254166592012-01-26T03:33:00.000-08:002012-01-26T03:33:44.032-08:00Threshold Concepts- IneractivityThe things I look for in a film are:<br />
<br />
<ul><li>Strong, gripping storyline</li>
<li>Mystery with unknown elements which keep the audience guessing throughout the film</li>
<li>Good conclusion and an effective <i>satisfying</i> resolution- which leaves you content once finished watching.</li>
<li>Characters which tell the story line well- but also are intriguing and slightly mysterious. </li>
</ul><u>Task: </u><br />
<br />
My plot would consist of a chase, but it would not be stereotypical. The characters would be lost between layers of time, which they have to attempt to escape. There would be two main characters male & female which are simultaneously trying to discover how to find a resolution out of the situation. The two characters introduce romance, but only one is able to escape. Both characters try to ignore the fact that only one will be able to safely return to reality... but they each try to defy fate.<br />
<br />
There would be an unknown character or object which they are trying to escape from, however the audience would never see it- they would only feel its presence. <br />
<br />
The story would be very mysterious with the audience never knowing when or where the story is set, all that would be revealed would be the dramatic need to escape the predicament which they are in. <br />
<br />
The story would be resolved but there would be a huge decision which would have to be made. Eventually the two characters would fall for one another, and would end up staying together lost in time.zoestroudhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07236470819952783027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9089972616400685341.post-48584090718798290932012-01-17T07:21:00.000-08:002012-01-17T08:43:00.289-08:00Mood board..<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLmVSX_Qi_tWE4Q7vub_bdkzyW8F33TxFahkKUWAyjzX6rnMcRLGDFlj0OrCZMx4yfRnhY3Ucrr6N9PhgCO7xNSaFB5pAQFk0Ej2LXFFzjJoPg9JbmHxvOmKDTBGIXCYI7Wl0KV26NVAc/s1600/MB+finsihed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="226" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLmVSX_Qi_tWE4Q7vub_bdkzyW8F33TxFahkKUWAyjzX6rnMcRLGDFlj0OrCZMx4yfRnhY3Ucrr6N9PhgCO7xNSaFB5pAQFk0Ej2LXFFzjJoPg9JbmHxvOmKDTBGIXCYI7Wl0KV26NVAc/s320/MB+finsihed.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><span style="font-size: x-small;"><br />
</span><br />
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin: 0in; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">My Mood Board below, has been created to begin the design process of my website. I began by collecting images which I was interested and visually attracted too. The Mood board has helped me to understand my own</span><span style="font-size: small; font-style: italic;"> personal branding</span><span style="font-size: small;">. I began by choosing things which I was interested in, I started with using the website image spark, which enabled me to see collections of images which I were drawn towards. I have used tones of reds, pinks, black and greys, this is the start of the colour palette I'd like to use on my design, however I am sure that I will not use all of the colours and styles. My Mood board has a feminine feel, which I believe is reflected from my own style of work and art which I have created in the past. </span></div><div style="font-family: inherit; margin: 0in; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: inherit; margin: 0in; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">I have used a central image of Alice in Wonderland because I am drawn towards the 'wonderland' style, with the imaginative and creative characters related with it. I am also a fan of reading books and whilst I was completing my A level art, I used a lot of lettering and collaging in my work- I felt that this is important to include within my mood board . I like too travel- so I have included some images which I have taken myself whilst travelling, I have used an image of Albert Dock in Liverpool and also the Cavern in Liverpool. </span></div><div style="font-family: inherit; margin: 0in; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: inherit; margin: 0in; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">I plan to alter the designs/colours/images a lot before I finalise any kind of design ideas and decisions. Completing another mood board will also encourage me to try and combine all my interests into something which reflects my style- so that my portfolio echoes my work and passions. </span></div>zoestroudhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07236470819952783027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9089972616400685341.post-92170349194153849482012-01-16T03:15:00.000-08:002012-01-16T03:15:18.491-08:00Design Practice TwoToday we had our first seminar and we met Gisele and Sean who are the tutors of the Interactive Media Carousel. In this section we will be looking at ways to create a five page website which will be converted into our portfolio in our later professional years.<br />
<br />
In our introduction semis we were practising using Dreamweaver and using tags to create a functional website. The title of the interactive media is called 'Digital Me'. Sean has asked us to create a mood board to being the design process and also look at existing websites which interest us- I'll post them when I've completed them...zoestroudhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07236470819952783027noreply@blogger.com0
